I, you, we and they: forms of patriotism in teaching materials of the Czech educational system and the Czech classrooms
Kubíček, Jan ; Lánský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Samek, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis focuses on the form of the discourse of nationalism in educational materials, specifically in selected history and civics textbooks for primary schools. The aim of the paper is not to cover all available educational materials in the Czech school environment, but to conduct a probe into textbooks from selected subjects from one publisher, which serves as a sample. There are subtle forms of nationalism that are part of public discourse, and the thesis will map these forms in the textbooks as manifestations of the discourse of nationalism, which seeks to shape national identity, among other things. Therefore, the work follows in these textbooks their language, the topics they choose, the ways in which they report on the topics and the other media they use (e.g. visual documents). The thesis examines the aforementioned elements of the textbooks through qualitative analysis, specifically critical discourse analysis. The main question that the thesis seeks to answer is which discursive means are used to form Czech national identity, and whether this identity also includes an ethnocentric view of the world. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first chapter focuses on the key concepts needed for the research. The second chapter focuses on the research methodology. The theoretical...

Štěpánová, Marie ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Hrabáková, Jaroslava (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on the personage of Ferdinand Kafka (1841-1925), a representative of period cultural and educational activities in the context of the Malé Svatoňovice area, at the utter end of Czech lands, lying at the sharp Czech-German linguistic line. Public activities of Ferdinand Kafka occur in the second half of the 19th century and the first two decades of the following one. The case study is on a topic which has never been researched, and works with a historical-comparative method that draw from a large amount of primary sources, such as from personal archives of Kafka's family or the document collection of the amateur theatre. This profile takes notice of Kafka's life events, family and social background, and, above all, of his work for the region. We can find Ferdinand Kafka as a council man, responsible for decision making in his home town, and as a speaker of the people, ensuring communication between inhabitants and their aristocrats. He is described as a folk writer and a gifted public narrator. This follower of revivalist traditions contributed to national culture also by the foundation of a large number of local Czech educational guilds, such as the readers'company. The largest space is dedicated to the local theatre which Kafka helped to construct and where he performed and...
Education for patriotism in Czech schools
Kyzlinková, Marcela ; Stará, Jana (advisor) ; Uhlířová, Jana (referee)
The key aim of this work is a method of patriotic education in our schools, mainly in the first grade of primary schools. The point of this work is to awaken patriotism in society again. In the first step we are informed about the important ideas that enable to develope the assumptions neccesary for the patriotic recognition and for an increase in patriotic feeling. The theory pays the attention to morality, influencing behaviour; for example, material and physical values and the aesthetic. It describes each historical term individually, from the beginning of national recovery during the first half of 19th century to the present days. It underlines the need to understand correctly the individual ideas and it points out the general chaos and risks of their interpretations in society. It recognises the important tasks that our society has to face to maintain the education of patriotism succesfully. The practical aspect contains the class discussions, interwiews and analysis of individual pupils, teachers, directors and it compares the level and quality of class debats with teacher`s attitude. The main thing was to find out the teachers' personal feeling about patriotism, his or her attitude towards its education and the way he or she communicates this during the lessons.

Literary-didactic potential of "České nebe"
Jiskrová, Zuzana ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (referee)
This thesis directly continues my bachelor thesis titled "What and Why do we laugh with Jára Cimrman at". The first, theoretical part, sums up the observation of the poetics of the plays of Jára Cimrman Theatre and subsequently proves them through interpretation of the last play of Smoljak & Svěrák called "České nebe". The first two chapters provide the theoretical base of knowledge for the four-hour-long lesson based on "České nebe" itself. Both these chapters mainly focus on the used humour and the character of Jára Cimrman, the Czech national genius, but also on related topics such as mystification, space-time, Czechness and composition. The second part of the thesis is then the main one which brings the theory into practice. "České nebe" as a play offers an enormous didactic potential which can be used to verify and deepen one's literacy. The didactic part includes a complex preparation for four lessons, for which it provides a basic introduction of Jára Cimrman Theatre and a summary of comedy techniques used by this theatre, which have a strong emphasis on parody. Mainly, though, it provides a brief insight into the opinions, values and the culturally-historical knowledge of a today's adolescent. The students had a chance to elect their own Czech heaven committee in their class and, by doing...
